Has it ever happened to you, where something you’ve seen, heard, or done a million times before suddenly seems novel? Without rhyme or reason a kind of renewal happens. Its not earth shattering or life changing, just noticeable enough to rise above the din of the daily shuffle. I wonder what the importance of these moments are.

“He was now listening intently, completely absorbed, quite empty, taking in everything. He felt that he had now completely learned the art of listening. He had often heard all this before, all these numerous voices in the river, but today they sounded different.”

-excerpt from Siddhartha by Herman Hesse

  1. You know, it happens once in a while but it’s hard to appreciate those little moments because soon after, you’re thrust back into the daily grind. The way that we can focus our senses on minute details that often seem to be overlooked, not judging, not questioning but just enjoying the moment. I think those moments allow us to see the true beauty of our lives and shows us that art is all around us, we just have to learn to look.

By the way, I’ve been following your posts recently and I have to say, the way you use your words is very artistic, almost poetic.

  2. Hey thanks for commenting James. I think you’re right. Those moments have a way of cutting through the clutter of life. I also tend to forget those small moments almost as soon as they happen I think because life demands our involvement not just our observation of it. But they are sweet.
