This jacket, this button, it has been through a lot. If it were a lesser jacket it would have to retire soon. It has seen many days, many seasons, many owners. I bought it in a thrift store. Who knows how many others it had before me? How many other short, skinny, presumably male owners have rubbed their skin against its insides? How many have fallen asleep in its tough but protective sleeves? How many stains have been wiped and washed from its skin? But no matter, those days are past and this jacket is mine now.

It is ragged and worn, it has seen better days. If it were any less of a jacket it would be at its end. If it were those soft vinyl coats, it would be full of holes by now. If it were one of those cotton, paper thin, hipster hoodies it would be tissue paper by now. If it were one of those frilly parkas the rain would have consumed it long ago. But this jacket is built to last. It may have been round the block more times than anyone can count but its legs are still strong. Its buttons are still firmly in place. Its collar still has its hold. Its form is impeccable. This jacket plays for all nine innings.
