At my old workplace we had these painted silk scrolls framed on the walls of our collection vaults. They are all treasured artifacts collected from around the world and many from the pacific northwest where I’m from. Occasionally I’d stop what I was doing and just stare at them. The complexity of the work, its lines, shapes, and colors are mesmerizing. The seeming randomness of the design gives the still scroll a sense of velocity unmatched by the wildest rivers. I wish everyone could see them with their own eyes, if only they weren’t locked away behind vault doors. Art is meant to be shared not horded but if its not out for public exhibition you just know its chillin’ in some dark basement.
